Man Utd footballer Mason Greenwood accused by woman of attacking her

Manchester United has issued a statement to say it is 'aware of the images'

MASON Greenwood is facing a police probe after he was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.

Police confirmed the striker, 20, remains in custody over the allegations, which came to light this morning.

The footballer has also been suspended from Manchester United following the police probe, the club confirmed.

They said the forward will not return to training or play matches “until further notice” as it “does not condone violence of any kind”.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were made aware earlier today (Sunday 30 January) of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.

“An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.

“He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.”

A number of pictures were uploaded along with a video and a voice note to the woman’s Instagram story, including one of her lip badly bleeding and several bruises to her face, body and thighs.

With blood flowing from her mouth in one video, a caption read: “To everyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood actually does to me.”

An audio file was also uploaded to her story that detailed a graphic scene involving a female voice in communication with a male voice.

The posts have since been deleted from the Instagram account.
